The André Morkel Award
Eligible Nominees
The Professor André Morkel Award recognises an outstanding postgraduate of the UWA Business School whose leadership, professional achievement and contribution to society reflect the qualities exemplified by Emeritus Professor André Morkel.
Professor Morkel joined The University of Western Australia in 1976 as Professor of Commerce and went on to become the first Head of the Management Department and Director of the MBA program. Widely respected as a teacher, strategist and mentor, he inspired generations of students through his intellectual rigour, strategic insight and commitment to developing thoughtful and principled leaders.
Among those influenced by Professor Morkel was Michael Chaney AO, who has described him as an expert in corporate strategy, a wise counsellor and a great leader whose guidance had a significant influence on his own leadership journey. Mr Chaney has established the award in recognition of those contributions.
Presented annually, the Award honours a postgraduate whose career demonstrates exceptional leadership, sound judgement, integrity and a lasting positive impact on business, industry, government or the broader community.
